A Super
Spy Birthday Party

spy theme party

Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to have the best spy birthday party ever! Here are some of our favorite spy party ideas to help get you started.

SPY BIRTHDAY PARTY INVITATIONS

Sending great invitations can make your guests feel special before the party even starts. You can either make your own spy party invitations, or send some pre-made cards. Here are our favorite ideas for both options:

Make A Tri-fold Briefcase Invitation -- Send your guests spy party invitations that look like secret agent mission briefcases. To make this invitation, get a piece of black cardstock and fold it so that it is in three parts. The bottom two parts should be the same size, and the top fold should only be about one third the size of the others. This way when it is folded over the top it forms the flap of the briefcase. On a separate piece of white paper, write out your party information. You might write something like, "Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to come to _________'s spy birthday party." Glue this paper onto the inside of your "briefcase". Then fold it up and seal it with a gold sticker to make the briefcase clasp.

Send your Invitation in Code -- Another fun invitation idea is to create a coded invitation. Write "Top Secret Spy Party Information" at the top, then write out your information using either number code (make sure you include a chart showing what number equals what letter) or backwards lettering (use a mirror to help write and decode this one). On the outside of your envelope, write or stamp, "Top Secret Party Invitation Enclosed!"

**General Invitation Tips** -- If you choose to make your own invitations, don't forget to include the date, location, and time of your party. It is also helpful to put the host's name, RSVP by date, and either your phone number or email.

SPY BIRTHDAY PARTY ACTIVITIES

  • Fingerprint Name Badges -- Use name badge supplies (available at most office supply stores) to have your secret agents make their own top secret name badges. These might have a place for their real and their code names, and a spot for their fingerprint. (Use a standard ink pad for this.)

  • Disguise Station -- Help your spies go incognito by making a dress up station where they can design their own disguises. You can use things like sunglasses, wigs, fedoras, costumes, top secret moustaches, and face paint. Be sure to take lots of pictures!

SPY BIRTHDAY PARTY GAMES

Here are our favorite secret agent party ideas for activities to keep your little spies active:

  • Secret Agents Must be able to Evade Laser Beam Traps -- Run a really long piece of yarn in a mixed up pattern up and down your staircase. Than invite your secret agents to try to get to the top of the steps without disturbing any of the laser beams.

  • Secret Agents Must Demonstrate Good Observation Skills -- Gather all of your spies for an observation game. On a cookie sheet, place about 15 small toys or other items. Tell the children that they must use their observation skills to try and remember what is on the tray. Then give them about 30 seconds to study all the items. When the time is up, cover the tray with a dishcloth and discreetly remove one item. Uncover the tray and see who can figure out what is missing. Have the child who guessed correctly be the next one to be able to remove one item.

  • Secret Agents Must be Able to Quickly and Efficiently Detonate Bombs -- Have your spies form 2 teams for a balloon stomp bomb detonation relay race. At the end of a hallway or other open space, place two large garbage bags filled with balloons (enough for 2 balloons per child). Divide the group into two teams and have them line up at the other end of the hall. At the starting sign, each team sends one child down to grab a balloon “bomb” and pop it either by bouncing on it or stomping it (your choice) until it pops. They should then race back to their team, touch the next person’s hand, and that person takes off. The first team with all of its members back and sitting quietly wins.

  • Secret Agents Must Know How to Pass Important Messages-- Gather the group in a circle for a game of telephone. Start by whispering a tongue twister in one child’s ear and have them pass the message around. See if it can get back to the first child the same as it started!

  • Secret Agents Must be Physically Fit -- Design a fitness course for all your little agents. Use your imagination. You can see how many sit ups they can do in 1 minute, who can crabwalk across the room fastest, who can balance a ping-pong ball on a spoon while hopping up and down. Recruit your birthday agent to help you come up with some fun fitness tests.
