Celebrate the start of summer with an end of school year party! Here are some of our favorite ideas to help you host a great summer kickoff!

End of School Year Party Invitations

Sending great invitations can make your guests feel special before the party even starts. You can either make your own party invitations or send pre-made cards. Here are some ideas for both options:

Summer Sunglass Invitations -- Give your friends an invitation and a fun summer accessory all in one by sending them invitations attached to a pair of colorful summer sunglasses. Write your party information on a decorative tag and tie it to the glasses with a ribbon. You should either hand deliver these or mail them in padded envelopes.
Address Book Invitations -- Print out your party information on an adhesive label and attach it to the front of a small address book. Have everyone bring their address books to the party so that they can gather their friends phone numbers to keep in touch over the summer.

**General Invitation Tips** -- If you choose to make your own party invitations, don't forget to include the date, location, and time of your event. It's also helpful to put the host's name, RSVP by date, and either your phone number or email.

How to Decorate for an End of School Year Party

Since this party is the celebration of summertime, think bright and cheery when planning your party decorations. Here are some ideas to get you started:

Write a Welcome with Sidewalk Chalk -- If your party is right after school, consider writing messages on the sidewalk in a path to your house, such as "Hooray for Summer!" or "Fun in the Sun!" If school is too far away, write the messages on your driveway and front path.
Set Out Beach Towels -- Lay down some colorful beach towels where guests can sit to talk and eat.
Use Summer Toys to Decorate Your Table -- Make a table centerpiece by anchoring a weighted balloon bouquet to the bottom of a sand pail. Surround it with other summertime toys, such as squirt guns, sunglasses, and mini beach balls.

Activities for an End of School Year Party

Autograph T-Shirts -- Give everyone a plain white t-shirt and some colored Sharpie Markers and let them mingle and sign each other's shirts for a souvenir of the day.
Water Activities -- The start of summer usually calls for some water games. Set up a sprinkler to run through, a Slip 'N Slide to splash on, or organize a water balloon toss.
Bubbles and Sidewalk Chalk -- If the party is in your yard, set out some sidewalk chalk and bubble stuff for some outdoor fun.
Play Some Traditional Backyard Games -- Horseshoes, volleyball, ladderball, bocce, and badminton are all great activities for an end of school party.

Keep Everyone Hydrated -- Make sure you have plenty of liquids available for your party guests. Some good choices include water, lemonade, fruit punch or juice. Make your drinks even more fun by serving them with umbrella straws.
Set Out Some Snacks -- Fruit and veggie trays, chips, Goldfish Crackers, cheese sticks, and pretzels are all good choices for snack foods to place around the party. You might serve these on Frisbees or in sand pails for a summertime touch.
Make Your Own Sundae Bar -- A sundae bar is a fun food choice for an end of school party. Have some adult helpers dish out a few scoops of your favorite flavors of ice cream to each guest, and then let them go to town adding their own toppings. Be sure to include chocolate, caramel, and strawberry syrups, assorted small candies, coconut, cut fruit, and cherries for the top!
Popsicles -- If you're looking for an easier frozen party treat, consider offering a selection of popsicles.
