A Bumble Bee Party

Host a bright and cheery bumble bee party! Here are our favorite bumble bee birthday ideas to help you plan an event that's the bee's knees, including suggestions for bee invitations, bumble bee games and activities, and where to find some great bee party supplies and bee party favors.

Bumble Bee Party Invitations
Sending great invitations can make your guests feel special before the party even starts. You can either make your own bumble bee party invitations or send pre-made cards. Here are some ideas for both options:
- Bumble Bee Invitations -- Cut the outline of a bee from yellow cardstock. Use black marker to add the bee's stripes and a face. For a fun touch, attach antennae made of pipe cleaners and wings made of vellum paper to your invitation. Write your party information on the back of the card.
- Honey Invitations -- Use your computer to make your own personalized party labels to cover small jars of honey. Hand deliver these or send them off in small mailer boxes so that they don't open up in the mail.
- Photo Invitations -- If your guest of honor is very young, go for the cute factor and take a photo of him or her dressed in a little
bumble bee costume
. Add the photo to the front of your invitation with the caption, "Cute as Can Bee!" Write your party information on the inside of the card.
Bee Birthday Party Invitation Wording -- Wondering what to say on your invitations? Here are a few suggestions:
- "It's My Bee-Day!"
- "Come Celebrate my Happ-bee Birthday!"
- "Buzz on Over for My Bee-Day, and Don't Bee Late!"
- "RSVP to the Queen Bee"
**General Invitation Tips** -- If you choose to make your own invitations, don't forget to include the date, location, and time of your event. It's also helpful to put the host's name, RSVP by date, and either your phone number or email.

Bumble Bee Party Decorations and Bee Party Supplies
Black, white, and yellow make a great bumble bee party color scheme. You can incorporate these colors into your decor by mixing them up in your tableware, and also by using them in things such as balloons and streamers. Here are some additional ideas:
- Add Some Flowers -- Bees love flowers! Add some bunches of bright of daisies or black eyed susans to your party decor, tying pretty ribbons that coordinate with your party colors to the vases. For a fun touch, make some pipe cleaner bumble bees and stick them into your bouquets.
- Float Some Bees -- Use fishing line to hang some
tissue paper bees
and tissue paper flowers from your ceiling.
- Twist up Your Streamers -- Give your streamers some exta oomph by twisting three colors (yellow, black, and white) together before hanging them.
- Use Some Bee Party Printables -- We've created these free bee party printables for you to use. Just dowload them and add them to your water bottles, or cut out the circles and paste two together with a toothpick in between to use as pretty bee cupcake toppers.
- Hang a Pinata -- Welcome your guests with a bright bumble bee pinata
hanging somewhere in your party area. Later this decoration can double as a party activity.

Bumble Bee Games and Activities
Keep your party buzzin' with some fun bee theme party games and activities! Here are some of our favorite ideas to keep you busy...
- Face Painting -- Enlist the help of a friend or sibling to run a face painting station. Let your party guests choose from some simple pictures of bees, flowers, or anything else that they might like!
- How Many Bees in the Jar? -- Decorate and paint a bumble bee on the lid of a large glass jar and fill with black and yellow jelly beans. Take turns guessing how many beans are in the jar. The winner gets the jar filled with jelly beans! All other players receive a smaller baby food jar with a yellow bow on top and filled with jelly beans.
- Bumble Bee Tag --Issue each child a strip of stickers
and then it's each bee for himself! The aim of the game is to 'sting' someone by placing a sticker on their back without them noticing. At the end of the game the person with the least stickers is declared the champion bee, but the person with the most stickers on their back gets a prize.
- Bee Toss -- Use either your pipe cleaner bumble bees or cotton balls that you've turned into bees using markers and googly eyes for this game. Arrange a series of terra cotta pots filed with different candy or small treats. Give each child three tries to toss their bee into a pot. If they make the toss, they can take a treat from the pot where their bee landed.
- Find the Bee -- Hide a small toy bee
(or a rock painted to look like a bee) somewhere in your yard or party area. Challenge your guests to find the bee. Whoever finds it first gets to hide it in the next round.
- Buzz, Buzz, Sting! -- Have some fun playing this bumble bee version of the traditional game of "duck, duck, goose."
- Musical Flowers -- This is a bee version of musical chairs. Make some large flowers out of posterboard or laminated construction paper. You will need one less than your total number of party guests. Arrange these on the floor in a large circle. Play some music (maybe The Flight of the Bumble Bee) and have your guests buzz around the outside of the circle. When the music stops, they should each try to land on a flower. Whoever doesn't get a flower is out. Remove one flower from the circle and restart the music. Play until you have just one child left.
- Watch a Bee Movie -- Need an activity for a longer party, or something to quiet things down? Why not gather the gang for a viewing of Bee Movie.

Bumble Bee Cupcakes

What bumble bee party would be complete without something sweet! These adorable cupcakes are fun and easy to make.
- Start with your favorite variety of cupcake. (for an extra touch, make them in some flower shaped baking cups
.)
- Add 2-3 drops of green food coloring to white frosting and frost your cupcakes.
- To make the bees, use 3 yellow peanut M&Ms for the body, 2 sliced almonds for the wings, shoestring licorice for the antennae, and black decorator icing for the bee's face.
